As soon as we got to London, barely having gone through the door of the apartment we rented, I was surprised by the bell ring.
It was a very nice gentleman delivering my “Temari Cakes”!!

Before we move on, a bit of history:
Temari is a Japanese symbol of perfection. A millennial art! The temari balls, made by mothers and grandmothers for the children to play, were produced with beautiful old quimono left overs. As time went by, its threading became an art form.
Today, temari balls are a gift for “good luck” to those receiving them, conveying a whish for a long and happy life!

The work from artis Maki Searle, from Maki´s Cake, is without a doubt admirable! Her gastronomic art inspired in temaris, translated into original mini cakes to be taken as gifts by wedding guests, is simply AMAZING!

And there I was, all proud, with my “Temari Cakes” ready for a tasting!
Set up a cute production for you to appreciate with me (detail: I even bought tulips from the local market for the photos)!

Another important detail: not only are they beautiful, the mini cakes are delicious!

Maki´s Cake‘s studio is in Surrey, in the outskirts of London! In my virtual contact with the artist I realized it wouldn’t be possible to meet in person due to the millions of orders she needed to deliver for the weekend! Good… for Maki!!
Even so, she offered to deliver some for me to taste! Much to my surprise, in addition to the temari cakes I had requested, I got a beautiful cupcake and a mini cake that looked like a jewel!

Other creations from this artist that is so talented and sweet!
